SUMMARY:Slip Resist Raku with Scott Tubby
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, July 18 (10AM – 1PM) & Sunday\, July 19 (10AM – 3PM) for Slip Resist Raku with Scott Tubby: a 2-day workshop exploring the decorative technique of raku pottery. In this workshop\, participants will be using slip\, glaze recipes and methods developed by Kate and Will Jacobson\, originators of the technique\, to prep their pots for firing\, and then fire them in a specialty Raku kiln on the Manship property. Limited to 8 participants\, each participant can bring up to five bisque fired pots ranging in size from an orange up to 9” tall. **Please note: Vase forms work better in this technique than bowls. All pots fired in this technique will not hold water or food and are purely decorative. \nSlip Resist Raku\, or Naked Raku\, is a variation of Raku which is a 400-year-old Japanese firing technique. Slip (a liquid clay) is applied to the bisqued pot and then fired quickly in an outdoor kiln\, removed from the hot kiln\, placed in combustibles and then quenched in water where the slip pops off and reveals crackle patterns from the smoking process. It is a resist technique similar to Batik. \nREGISTER HERE.\n  \n\nAbout Scott: \nScott Tubby has been a potter for close to fifty years\, gaining recognition for his burnished and sagger fired porcelain pottery as well as his raku pottery. He has exhibited his work extensively over the years and three of his sagger fired pots are in the permanent collection of the Museum of American Art in the Smithsonian. He currently owns and operates a gallery in Rockport MA where he displays his pottery and oil paintings. \nScott’s work can be found on his website\, or on Instagram and Facebook @scotttubbyfineart.

SUMMARY:Liquid Spine: Open Rehearsal + Beach Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:*This is one event in Liquid Spine’s week of eco-dance programming. The full schedule is listed below.* \nJoin us at Starfield (6PM – 7PM) for a unique opportunity to experience the creative process with Liquid Spine as they prepare and rehearse for an upcoming performance. \nFollowing their dance rehearsal\, you are invited to follow them to a local beach where we will engage in a beach cleanup (7:15PM – 8:15PM) led by Seaside Sustainability. \nBYCATCH is a multidisciplinary community event that combines dance\, an artists’ jam\, and a beach cleanup to explore the ecology of our coastal waters. Created by choreographer\, and Great Marsh Artist Katie Pustizzi and the dance collective Liquid Spine\, the performance uses movement and reclaimed fishing gear to tell the stories of marine animals affected by pollution\, ghost gear\, and industrial bottom trawling. Drawing from field research\, the work embodies the realities of whale entanglement and the devastating impacts of bycatch on ocean ecosystems. By connecting the vulnerability of marine life with human experiences of trauma and resilience\, Bycatch invites audiences to reflect on our shared responsibility for the health of the natural world. \nREGISTER HERE \n\n\nBYCATCH SCHEDULE\nJULY 29:\nOpen Rehearsal + Beach Cleanup\nJULY 31:\nArtist Jam\nAUGUST 1\n11:00AM: Performance by Liquid Spine\n7:00PM: Performance by Liquid Spine

SUMMARY:Liquid Spine: BYCATCH
DESCRIPTION:*This is one event in Liquid Spine’s week of eco-dance programming. The full schedule is listed below.* \nLiquid Spine will give two performances of BYCATCH on August 1st: one at 11AM and one at 7PM. REGISTER HERE. \n……….. \nJoin us in the Barn at Starfield for a one-of-a-kind dance concert performed by Liquid Spine\, a global dance series that unearths the environmental needs of our water systems through movement\, community\, and conversation. \nTheir latest project\, BYCATCH\, brings to life the stories of marine animals impacted by entanglement\, through ghost gear\, pollution\, and destructive over-fishing practices such as bottom trawling. This contemporary dance performance uses marine debris collected from the coastlines of Massachusetts. \nRopes\, nets\, and weighted gear are transformed into dynamic\, expressive elements that move with a cast of six\, professional dancers. Through movement\, sound\, and repurposed materials\, BYCATCH invites audiences to witness the fragility and resilience of marine life. \nThe performance culminates in an opportunity for audiences to connect directly with the artists\, ask questions\, and deepen their understanding of the embodied\, environmental narrative. \n\nBYCATCH SCHEDULE\nJULY 29:\nOpen Rehearsal + Beach Cleanup\nJULY 31:\nArtist Jam\nAUGUST 1\n11:00AM: Performance by Liquid Spine\n7:00PM: Performance by Liquid Spine

SUMMARY:Plein Air Drawing with Jeff Hayes
DESCRIPTION:Refresh your skills\, sharpen your focus\, and practice drawing outside and on the go! This workshop with artist Jeff Hayes welcomes participants of all levels and includes warm-ups and exercises designed to build confidence while strengthening observation and drawing skills. \nThe goal is to improve the ability to quickly capture moments and scenes that abound at Starfield. Participants will review materials\, useful tools\, and exercises such as Continuous Line\, Thumbnails\, and Blind Contour. Students will practice observing their surroundings with fresh eyes\, choosing subjects and viewpoints\, and framing scenes through trees\, buildings\, patterns of light\, and close-up or expansive views. Drawing on the go is a lifelong skill that enriches many creative pursuits. Participants can expect to build technique\, focus\, and flow while actively drawing outdoors. \nREGISTER HERE.\n  \n\n\nAbout Jeff:\nJeffrey H. Hayes is a multidisciplinary artist\, designer\, and drawing instructor whose work is rooted in deep observation and the expressive potential of the hand-drawn line. He credits his high school art teacher\, Joan Gitlow\, with teaching him how to truly see\, lessons that continue to shape his approach to drawing and visual storytelling. \nFor decades\, Jeffrey worked as an art director at advertising agencies serving Fortune 500 clients\, where his answer to most challenges was a hand-drawn! As a live illustrator\, he creates real-time drawings during innovation sessions\, using imagery to deepen engagement and spark ideas. He has recently added live Fashion Sketching to his services. Jeffrey exhibits in group shows\, enjoys collaborating with fellow artists and printmakers\, and on a good day\, keeps a lively stream of sketches flowing from his pen. \nJeff’s work can be found here on his website.
