Plein Air Drawing with Jeff Hayes

August 22 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Refresh your skills, sharpen your focus, and practice drawing outside and on the go! This workshop with artist Jeff Hayes welcomes participants of all levels and includes warm-ups and exercises designed to build confidence while strengthening observation and drawing skills.

The goal is to improve the ability to quickly capture moments and scenes that abound at Starfield. Participants will review materials, useful tools, and exercises such as Continuous Line, Thumbnails, and Blind Contour. Students will practice observing their surroundings with fresh eyes, choosing subjects and viewpoints, and framing scenes through trees, buildings, patterns of light, and close-up or expansive views. Drawing on the go is a lifelong skill that enriches many creative pursuits. Participants can expect to build technique, focus, and flow while actively drawing outdoors.

REGISTER HERE.

About Jeff:

Jeffrey H. Hayes is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and drawing instructor whose work is rooted in deep observation and the expressive potential of the hand-drawn line. He credits his high school art teacher, Joan Gitlow, with teaching him how to truly see, lessons that continue to shape his approach to drawing and visual storytelling.

For decades, Jeffrey worked as an art director at advertising agencies serving Fortune 500 clients, where his answer to most challenges was a hand-drawn! As a live illustrator, he creates real-time drawings during innovation sessions, using imagery to deepen engagement and spark ideas. He has recently added live Fashion Sketching to his services. Jeffrey exhibits in group shows, enjoys collaborating with fellow artists and printmakers, and on a good day, keeps a lively stream of sketches flowing from his pen.

Jeff’s work can be found here on his website.
