Declan Siefkas’s Estuary Light Premiere
Estuary Light Premiere
April 24 – 5:30 pm, Moseley Chapel at The Governor’s Academy, 1 Elm St, Byfield, MA
Declan Siefkas, former Director of Choral Music at Governor’s Academy and now the Director of Music Technology at Phillips Academy, has written a stunning piece under his 2024-25 Great Marsh Artists grant called Estuary Light, which will premiere to the public for free.
Estuary Light seeks to capture something of the peculiar beauty of the Great Marsh of Massachusetts. Composed after two months of immersive listening and sound recording in different areas along the marsh, the piece draws upon the everyday rhythms, routines, and cycles of the marsh and its denizens. The tide, the crickets, the cycle of the sun, and the songs of the birds all feature in musical form.
